PLAYOFFS
2008 Final SCHEDULE and RESULTS:
LEGEND:
Highest Regular Season Final Position Determines Home
Team. "Seed"
refers to how a Team FINISHED the REGULAR SEASON
*Note that Football Alberta recognizes the CDMFA Atom Tier I Champion as the Provincial Atom Champion. Tier II, Tier III and Tier IV are internal CDMFA Championships.
Therefore, the CDMFA Tier I Championship Game is listed above as the Provincial Final.
------------------------------------------------------
Game Balls: The Home team provides the game
ball except for the finals when the CDMFA will provide
a game ball for the winning team to keep.
Championship Games: The VP or a CDMFA
representative will award the game ball to the Head Coach
of the winning team and the Trophy to the Team Captains.
Game Sheets: During the playoffs will be
using the on-line BLANK game sheets. The registrars and scorekeepers
have access to these. Fax it to the VP as soon as possible
(less than 12 hours) after the game.
Scores: You MUST Send the score to the WEBMASTER within
12 hours of the Game so that we can post next weeks games by
NOON on Monday.
Rosters: Please provide an accurate and complete
players list (NUMERIC ORDER!!) to the PA Announcer
before your game.
Minor Officials: There will be timekeepers,
PA announcers and spotters as well as stick crews provided
by the CDMFA for all playoff games (Except Wildcard Tournament).
Dressing Rooms: Most venues have 4 dressing
rooms. However, Johnny Bright has only two that are available
so please remove your items from the dressing rooms at half-time
for the next Teams that will be playing.
Home Team/Visiting Team: The Home team is
the team that finished higher in the standings of the regular
season. The Visiting team will have choice for the start of
the game. The Home team will have choice for overtime.
Atom Overtime Rules for CDMFA Play-Off Games 2008
The following rules with relation to tie games in CDMFA play-offs
have been adopted. Overtime rules rules are as defined
in the Canadian Rule Book for Tackle Football (2006)
with the following exceptions, they are as follows:
A) At the end of a tied game, players will be sent back to
their respective benches and the officials will meet in the
middle of the field to review these overtime rules.
B) The captains from each team will be escorted
to the center of the field ... The Home team will have
choice for overtime.
C) Home Team will choose from the following
options: 1) field the offence or defense team to start
the series or, 2) which end of the field to use for the
overtime play.
D) The team on offense will start a series
(first set) from the 35 yd line of their opponent. (short
end of the field). After that series, the other team
will start a series
from the same 35 yd line. If still tied, then they will have another set of series
(second) from the 35. If still tied, then they will have another set of series
(third) from the 25. If still tied, then the series (4th and subsequent) will
continue from the 25 but any touchdowns will require a two
point conversion attempt (kicking for Atom and Peewee).
E) SCORING- Current CDMFA scoring rules are
in effect. A kicked convert is worth two (2) points; a passing
or rushing attempt is worth one (1) point. Teams scoring a
touchdown are not required to attempt a two (2) point convert
after the first overtime series is played.
F) TIME OUTS- there will not be any team
time outs allowed in overtime.
2007 Atom Playoff Results
The Edmonton Chargers capped their season with a 27-12 win over the Mill Woods Maulers to claim the mantle of Provincial Tier I Atom Champions for 2007. They had to overcome some quality opponents to do so; the Black Raiders and the St. Albert Jaguars both proved worthy opponents.
The Black Raiders went on to claim the Tier II title, defeating the St. Albert Vikings 8-0 in the final. At Tier III , it was an all-Sherwood Park affair as the Broncos defeated the Eskimos by an 18-12 margin. And at Tier IV the Silver Raiders overcame the Spruce Grove Cougars 6-0.
Congratulations to our winners, and especially to the Atom Chargers on their Provincial Tier I Title!
